I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM! This easy and perfect summer treat is sure to make your taste buds dance. This rainbow tie-dye ice cream recipe, courtesy of our favorite YouTuber Yoyomax12, is also a perfect summer activity to do with your kids who need something sweet after being outside all day.
To start off you are going to need some vanilla ice cream. Pick a 2-liter (approximately 2 quart) container of your favorite brand. You can even find vanilla in gluten free if you are trying to adhere to food allergies. A tip from previous makers is to find an ice cream container that comes in a cardboard box. This makes it easier to measure and cut into portions.
Unfold the box and place the block of ice cream on a cutting board. Cut the block into six portions for the six colors of the rainbow you will be using. If you don’t have the ice cream in a cardboard box, and in a plastic container, just scoop it out and divide the ice cream into six equal portions. Once you have divided the pieces on the cutting board, place the pieces into six separate bowls. This will eliminate a mess if it starts to melt.
Now you’ll need Jell-O packets for the colors of the rainbow. Check out this other awesome Yoyomax12 recipe that involves Jell-O here!
Each flavoring of the colors is different. You will need 3 tablespoons of each Jell-O packet.
Take the first color and spread it in the bottom of your ice cream container (cardboard box or plastic container). Then take one of the six portions of ice cream and place it on top. Gently swirl the ice cream on top making a smooth layer. Continue this process for the following colors and layers of ice cream until you fill the container to the top (ice cream will be the top layer). Take the ice cream container you just made and place it in the freezer for several hours until it hardens back up.
Once your ice cream is firm you are ready to serve your creation! Scoop the ice cream from the side and cross all the layers of colors. You will then get the perfect rainbow tie-dye scoop of sweet ice cream!
