Dolphins are known for their undeniable intelligence and irrefutable cleverness. After humans, these seafaring creatures are the smartest beings on Earth!
They are so astute, in fact, dolphins experience many of the same emotions and cognitive thoughts as us.
According to Animal Planet, they are fully capable of understanding artificial languages, recognizing their own reflection and have even been found to follow some cultural traditions!
But there’s one additional thing that makes us more similar to dolphins than not – looks like humans aren’t the only ones that blush when they’re feeling a bit sensitive!
Okay, so it might not be every dolphin who experiences this overwhelming flush when emotions run high, but the rare albino dolphin astonishingly turns a bright shade of pink whenever he’s angry, sad or even embarrassed!
The footage below shows Angel, an albino bottlenose dolphin as it plunges into his home at the Taiji Whale Museum in southern Japan. His rare ability to change color is due to his unique skin condition – his thin skin, lacking melanin, enables a rush of blood cells to be clearly exhibited over his entire body!
This maritime specimen is so extraordinary, it is believed to be only the second one ever to live in an aquarium! Some say that the museum is doing the dolphin a favor by keeping it in captivity as albinos can be easy prey in the ocean since they lack the grey coloration to blend more subtly like their darker counterparts.
One thing is for certain, though, whether in its white or pink state, this nautical creature is bringing crowds from all over the world, and it’s not hard to see why – it’s simply beautiful.
