This Red Velvet Brain Cake Will Be a Hit At Your Halloween Party

Angela Markus

If you really want to impress/freak out your guests at your Halloween party this year, we have the perfect cake for you. Who doesn’t love the rich goodness of red velvet cake, so why not make it into a brain? This design is not only scary but also scrumptious.

How To Cake It’s Yolanda first starts by baking her red velvet cake. She puts the cake in a round 8” bowl to achieve a shape that is similar to the brain. She removes the cake from the pan and shapes it even more. She replicas the brain perfectly, even ensuring there were the two hemispheres.

She then sprays the cake with simple syrup and pastes it with Italian Meringue Buttercream. She then puts the cake in the fridge to chill. She removes the cake from the fridge and adds another layer of buttercream.

She prepares the fondant by dying it to replicate a skin color then kneads. She kneads it into tubes of about 4 to 5 inches long then pastes the tubes onto the cake so it looks like brain matter. The resemblance is uncanny.

After completing the lower half of the brain, she turns the cake upside down to complete the bottom of the brain. After which she flips it again to complete tubing the top half.

She then uses the leftover fondant to create the cerebellum and uses a tool to make the intricate markings. She pastes the entire cake with seedless raspberry jam and result is mind-blowing.
