The ocean covers more than 70 percent of the planet’s surface but more than 95 percent of it remains unexplored.

As technology progresses we are able to explore more and more of the ocean each year. With every exploration, new and sometimes terrifying creatures and discovered and photographed. 

Day breaks over the Puerto Rican ocean as American ocean explorers prepare for their trek below the lustrous blue waves, curious as to what they will encounter. 

While some creatures resemble an octopus, others look like strange aliens inhabiting the waters. A few of these newly discovered creatures have bodies that seem to be transparent and you can see their insides! I can see why these crazy creatures choose to stay at the bottom of the ocean! I would be pretty scared to come face to face with one of these frightening fishies!

If we’ve only explored less than 5 percent of the ocean then I’m keeping hope alive that mermaids are real!
