Former Students File Lawsuit After They Were Subjected To Medical Probing

Valencia College in Orlando, Fla., was hailed as a “national model for women” by President Obama. The school has now been put under a microscope after being slapped with a federal lawsuit by two former students.

In the lawsuit, the former students allege that they were subject to painful, invasive and humiliating genital examinations that were “mandatory” for their sonography class.

“Valencia positioned these transvaginal probes as voluntary, but its actual policy and practice was that they were not,” according to the lawsuit. When students complained, college staff told them that “they could find another school if they did not wish to be probed.”

The lawsuit also claims that academic threats were made including “blacklisting” from internships and academic penalties. My Fox Tampa Bay reported that “anatomically correct simulators” were available to the class but they were not always used.
