Lie Lands Teen on Sex Offender Registry

Zack Anderson, a 19-year-old from Indiana, spent three months in jail after having sex with a 14-year-old girl. He will be listed as a sex offender for the next 25 years.

The kicker is that the unnamed 14-year-old girl from Michigan posed as a 17-year-old on an app called Hot or Not. Anderson claims he had no idea that the girl was not, in fact, 17 like she claimed.

Once authorities caught wind of what had happened, Anderson was promptly arrested. Despite the girl and her mother acknowledging in court that the girl had lied to Anderson and that there would be no way for him to have known her actual age, the judge decided to make an example out of the teenager.

At sentencing, the judge claimed “You went online, to use a fisherman’s expression, trolling for women, to meet and have sex with. That seems to be part of our culture now. Meet, hookup, have sex, sayonara. Totally inappropriate behavior.

The boy and his family are fighting the case and are citing the judge’s unwillingness to look at the case in an unbiased manner. In the mean time, Anderson is unable to live at home as he as a 15-year-old brother. He is also banned from getting online.

The boy’s parents began a Change.org petition that has already received over 200,000 signatures.

What are your thoughts? Do you think he’s guilty or not?
