When This Town Couldn’t Afford Housing, These People Did The UNTHINKABLE!

Affordable housing has been an issue in our country. In particular, college students have had issues finding places to live that won’t break the bank while they areĀ getting their education.

At Auburn University, they think they have found a way to offer affordable housing to all for less than $20,000. The 20K Housing Initiative was created by engineering students that gives everyone an opportunity to own an entire home for $20,000, benefitting the region’s poorest residents and community organizations.

The workshop has built several houses and companies in western Alabama including a Boys & Girls Club, an animal shelter and various houses around the city. The program has built more than 150 projects to date, including 16 different iterations of the $20,000 house.
