A local Louise, Texas news station, WPVI, recently covered a story about an unlikely friendship that is sure to warm your heart.

Brooke Ochoa was walking into a restaurant for lunch last week to grab a quick bite to eat by herself when she noticed that the older woman behind her was alone as well. A spur of the moment idea, she turned to the woman and asked if she’d like join her for lunch. The woman, Delores, excitedly agreed.

The two sat together and discussed their lives. Though a very large age difference between them, Brooke and Delores had much in common and really enjoyed one another’s company. Brooke learned that Delores had recently fallen on tough emotional times, as her mother had recently passed away and she’d had to move her aunt into a nursing home. The older woman was so happy to have found a listening ear in Brooke and the two enjoyed their time together so much that they agreed to meet for lunch every Thursday.

Following lunch, Brooke went to Facebook to share her experience with, and hopefully inspire, others.

She said “We had a wonderful talk, and she just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too!…Her words healed my heart just as much as I healed her lonely one. By far the best decision I’ve made all year!!!”

Brooke’s story has since been shared more than 250,000 times and has received over 2 million likes. She hopes that other young people will follow in her footsteps and do something kind to make someone else happy.
