After 70 Years Apart, This Veteran Is Reuniting With His Wartime Girlfriend

Angela Markus

WWII vet Norwood Thomas spent two hours laughing and chatting with his wartime girlfriend Joyce Morris via Skype. At the end of their online reunion, he told her how much he’d like to meet up in person someday.

That day will come sooner than later for these two love birds.

Thomas is set to visit Australia to reunite with Joyce after more than 70 years apart.

Thomas was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division, and Joyce, who now lives in Australia, had met the airman just months before a relationship ignited. Although circumstances of the war separated them, Thomas returned to his homeland and lost contact with his beauty.

When the story of their online reunion was published in The Virginian-Pilot months ago, hundreds of people reached out, asking how they could help reunite the pair. Readers started a Go Fund Me campaign where more than 300 people made donations. Others mailed checks directly to Thomas’ house.

Over $7,000 has been donated since then, according to Mashable. Even Air New Zealand Air has gotten involved by offering the service man a free first class ticket to visit the love of his life. Now, this couple who hasn’t seen each other in over 7 decades will have the opportunity to spend Valentine’s Day together.
