Woman Drowns in Dubai Because Her Father Didn’t Want Lifeguards Touching Her

Erika Carter

An unnamed 20-year-old woman drowned off the coast of Dubai because her father refused to allow lifeguards to save her.

Tragically, a young woman went swimming alone in the ocean but for whatever reason, could not keep up with the waves and needed help. She shouted for assistance and it is believed that if lifeguards had reached her in time, she would’ve survived.

Instead of running out to help her, however, lifeguards were banned from doing anything by the victim’s own father. Because honor and purity were so important to him, he said that he would rather see his daughter die than be touched by strange men.

And so, the lifeguards had to helplessly watch the girl drown at the insistence of her own father.

Speaking out on the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Burqibah, deputy director of Dubai Police’s Search and Rescue Department, has said that the terrible experience is one that he will never forget.

There was one obstacle which prevented them from reaching the girl… the belief of this Asian man who considered that if these men touched his daughter, this would dishonor her… He told them that he prefers his daughter being dead than being touched by a strange man.”

Though the story ends in tragedy, Burqibah did note that the father was not simply allowed to walk away from the incident. Rather, he was sued and prosecuted for his negligence and obstruction.

Some stories make it difficult to understand beliefs that differ from our own and this story is definitely one of those stories…
