All homeowners know that when they purchase a home, there can be some pretty interesting finds from the previous owners. From a basement full of guns and artillery, to, in this case, a burial ground. For one Mission, Texas woman, that possibility became all too real in a scare just in time for Halloween. When workers were renovating a woman’s backyard, they found an old rusted coffin with bones still inside.
Deedee Oliveira, who recently bought the house on Elm Street in Mission, told local news she was shocked when the casket was unearthed. Oliveira received a call from the workers after they hit a hard object in the ground.
After using an excavator to lift the object from the dirt, Oliveira said she couldn’t believe a casket was hanging from the metal chain attached to the claw of the hoisting machine. In an interview with the local station she said, “They had seen little booties and pink little bears and then one of the guys said that he had seen bones.

Thanks to knowledge from the next-door neighbor, it turned out that the remains belonged to the previous owner’s beloved cocker spaniel. And they weren’t alone in the makeshift cemetery. Workers reportedly later dug up cat bones inside a toolbox buried near the coffin. Yikes!
To Mrs. Oliveira’s delight, “Thank God it was a dog and not human remains,” Oliveira said. “If not, I think I would’ve gone crazy,” she said.
